Book of Bad Arguments is a great primer for anyone looking to understand logical fallacies

and become a better debater. It helps that each logical fallacy is accompanied by a comic

featuring funny animals.

Writer and computer programmer Ali Almossawi teamed up with illustrator Alejandro Giraldo

to create The Book of Bad Arguments, which is available in its entirety online and licensed

under a Creative Commons license. Almossawi briefly explains each logical fallacy and the

cartoon on the opposite page illustrates how the fallacy works.

Distance overlapping, positions, and timing can sometimes create a brand new perspective of

a photo. This weekend, we want to show you 100+ Funny Photos Taken At Unusual Angle, a

compilation of photos taken at the exact right timing and angle, thus creating a humor side

of the story; intentionally or unintentionally.

To start off our huge collection of Halloween photos, we'll use the first five as a

learning tool and see if we can derive any valuable tips from them.

Use A Shallow Depth of Field

This one particularly applies to single person shots. When you're out and about on

Halloween, there's bound to be a lot of commotion. Trick or treaters, party goers and

concerned parents fill the streets and can add a lot of background distractions to your up

-close people shots. Cranking down the DOF will turn all those annoying distractions into

beautiful background blur.

Since a shallow DOF comes with a wider aperture, you get the added benefit of collecting

more light in all those spooky dark places!

It's All About the Kids!

Some adults really love Halloween (maybe even a little too much), but don't forget that the

holiday is really all about kids having fun becoming their favorite characters and eating

lethal amounts of sugar. If you're in charge of shooting a Halloween event, make sure to

capture all of those tiny costumes, smiles and eventually, exhausted faces. Kids always

make the most interesting and unpredictable photo subjects.

Don't Forget The Food

People aren't the only thing that gets scarier on Halloween. There's always tons of cute,

bizarre and often disgustingly decorated sustenance to be had. While you're party jumping,

be sure to hit the food tables at each location and grab some close-ups of the creative

cooking.

Lighting Is Everything

As I mentioned above, the conditions for shooting on Halloween tend to be pretty poor.

You'll no doubt find yourself in situation after situation of horrible lighting conditions

and it can be really tricky to capture the atmosphere. You'll want to pack a flash and look

for ways to diffuse it. Instead of pointing it directly at your subject, try bouncing it

off of walls, ceilings, shiny costumes; anything you can find! Also make sure to bring your

widest aperture lens and look for areas with some mood lighting already present.

Try A Long Exposure

While you're out there struggling with shooting in the dark, you'll have a great

opportunity for some creative and unique long exposure photos. Since it's Halloween, you

can use all the blurring that is normally frustrating to your advantage and create some

truly spooky images! The photo below is a perfect example. Notice how the small, streaked

light sources really add to the effect.
